What is salicylic acid?
Salicylic acid is a popular ingredient you’ll find in many anti-acne products. It’s a type of beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) that gently exfoliates the skin and unclogs the pores. That said, it works wonders in clearing away blackheads and whiteheads.
What causes back acne?
ICYDK, "back acne is the result of an accumulation of dead skin cells and oil [sebum] within the pores in the skin," Kara Shah, MD, a board-certified general and pediatric dermatologist, told Everday Health. Additionally, she noted that "acne on the back and shoulders is commonly associated with sports activities that cause increased sweating and friction from athletic gear and clothing." When working out, it's best to wear loose-fitting clothing to avoid trapping dirt and sweat in the pores, which can lead to acne.
